The holidays can be a stressful time for everyone. From running around getting last minute presents to trying to get the house prepared for the family it is a time consuming task for everyone. It is normal to feel down or stressed out as a result of it. Nevertheless, living with a mental illness can really multipy the feelings of the holiday season, good or bad, times ten. So keep each other in mind this season. We all may feel apprehensive about seeing our families, due to our own reasons. However, add the element of mental illness and it is a different beast. So remember to be kind and understanding to one another. As a fellow soldiers in trying to end the stigma, I know the shame and self- loathing that can come from living with mental illness.
P.S. You are not alone.
